Vacation Ownership, also known as Timeshare, is experiencing extraordinary growth within the hospitality industry, due in large part to the industry's constant innovation developed in response to consumer lifestyle needs and vacation preferences.
Total sales volume for the Vacation Ownership industry in 2005 was $8.6 billion, which is a 9% increase from that of 2004!
The projections for 2006, 2007 and beyond will see that increase significantly.
On January 1, 2006, 4.1 million households owned one or more U.S. timeshare weekly intervals or points-equivalents. This represents a 5% increase over January 1, 2005. On average, there are 26.5 owners per timeshare unit.

Because of the tremendous growth within the Vacation Ownership Industry, there continues to be a significant expansion in the number of available vacation ownership units. The Industry constructed 22,424 units in 2005. And in 2006, there were another 23,578 new units. This represents a projected 15% increase in the number or vacation ownership units. An estimated 43,950 additional units, for which developers have firm commitments, are planned for construction in 2007 and beyond.
The predominant resort category was seaside/ocean, reported by nearly 32% of responding resorts. This was followed by regional resorts (14%) and golf resorts (10%).

Consistently high satisfaction rates among owners, along with repeat sales to existing owners and owner referrals of potential buyers account for the strong, steady growth of the vacation ownership industry.
